Sandy Creek Wants to Play Your Event!!

We are looking to expand our horizons and spread the word of God.  If you have an event and you need a good Gospel Bluegrass Band, give us a call or drop us a line.  We will play churches for a love offering or for free and our secular event fees are very low. See contact page for more information!

                                                     Meet the Band!

The band members are (left to right):

Rob Sadler - lead harmony vocals, lead guitar, mandolin and song writing; Lloyd Bufford - rhythm guitar and vocals; Brian Cope – banjo and vocals; Bruce Almarode - mandolin and vocals; Jerry Kester - bass, autoharp and vocals. By the way, Jerry is the creative one of the bunch, making his own instruments and writing songs for our group!

Our Mission

We are a ministry of our home church, Sandy Creek Baptist of Amelia, Virginia.  “We believe according to the scripture that we are called to worship… giving God His due.  We are called to evangelism … bringing more people to God’s faith family.  We are called to service… as Jesus came to serve.  We are called to discipleship… becoming more like Christ.  We are called to fellowship… not just believing, but belonging.” It is our desire to spread God's love and truth through song.

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.  Psalm 95:1

Our History!

Our group started from a desire to play old time and gospel music.  In the beginning, there were several church members who gathered together at one another’s home to play, sing, and fellowship.   The word got out and the response was so overwhelming, we soon found ourselves at the local Company Five Volunteer Fire Station.  It was great fun.  Some nights there would be 15 to 20 musicians; beginners to very experienced, along with 20 to 60 just listening and singing. After a while, a group of us started concentrating more on refining our talents.  We started playing at local area churches and other social events.  In 2006, we became a ministry of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.  What an honor it is. We have a desire to keep the tradition of old time gospel music alive. Before there cars, televisions and cell phones; friends, neighbors and families would gather together on the front porch and play old time music and gospel.                      What a better world it would be today if that still continued!

Faith and obedience in Christ has put instruments in our hands and now we are instruments for the Lord.  We will continue to be obedient to our Lord.  As with all Christians, we must not place limits on ourselves and allow the Lord to use us as He sees fit.

Sandy Creek Bluegrass Festivals & Other Events

We are looking forward to our 4th Annual Fall Bluegrass Festival. Keep checking the bands schedule for date and time.

In years past the festivals have started in the early afternoon and extended into the evening. The music is filled with the word and love for Jesus Christ.  The bands play a mix of old favorites and some of their own.  It is hard to walk away hungry because the food is plentiful and delicious.  Best of all is the fellowship with fellow believers and those who come seeking truth.

2007 – What a beautiful day- sunny, 70 degrees, 5mph wind.  All of the bands were awesome; the food was great and most of all - the presence of Gods family.

2008 – A cool clear day but very cold and a bit windy.  The stew kept our bellies full but the music warmed our hearts and our cold ears.

2009 – The storm clouds did could not spoil a good time.  Cold and wet on the outside.  Warm and dry on the inside.  Once again unforgettable music, ministry, and fellowship.

2010 - Will be memorable!

Special thanks to all of the bands that have helped us make the festivals unforgettable.

The Virginia Folk Music Assoc. Competitions...9/16/07

Well we went and participated at the VFMA Bluegrass Competitions on 9/16/07 and had a great time. We met many folks and renewed some acquaintances as well. We didn't go in thinking we had much of a chance and were right, but we DID get the Gospel message across to all who attended with the five songs we did, so in that way, we won! Thanks to all who came out and supported us, it meant a lot!

Sandy Creek recognized as a ministry of Sandy Creek Baptist Church...4/26/2006

At the quarterly business meeting, Sandy Creek Gospel Bluegrass asked to be an actual ministry of the church and the motion was approved. This means more to us than any contest. To receive the blessings of a church as solid as Sandy Creek Baptist, well, it speaks well of what we are doing for our Lord. We are excited as we look ahead and find out what is in store for us next!

Sandy Creek wins I.B.A. 2006 Old Time Music and Bluegrass Contest...4/8/06      The Sandy Creek Gospel Bluegrass Band, based out of Sandy Creek Baptist Church in Deatonville, Virginia, traveled to Chincoteague Island on April 8th to compete in the Island Bluegrass Alliance Spring Festival Old-time music and Bluegrass contest at the Islands Chincoteague Center.  The band played a mixed set of gospel and bluegrass and at the end of the event they were declared the winners by a panel of judges.  The band won a prize of $300 and got to play the opening set at the evening concert for the featured band, Roadside Cafe.
